Safe Moving & Delivery
Do you move gun safes?
Yes. At In the Nick of Time Moving, safes are our specialty. Our crews go through a dedicated week-long training program at our corporate office to learn how to move safes properly and protect all types of flooring
Can you deliver a gun safe purchased from a store?
Yes. We can pick up the safe from any store on your behalf and deliver it to you. We may need information from your receipt or a picture of it but we will help you determine what is needed during the quote process.
What is the process for getting a quote for delivery?
We can quote your delivery before or after you purchase a safe. You can fill out our online quote form or give us a call. The call center will ask you basic information like where you purchased the safe, what make and model you purchased, and where you are looking to have it placed. Depending on your answers, we may need additional information to confirm the safe will fit where you would like to have it placed. We have more detailed information in the Quotes and Scheduling section.
Can you move safes within the same home or business?
Yes. We can relocate safes within a property, including moving them to a different room, floor, garage, office, or any final placement area, as long as the safe will fit dimensionally.
What is the maximum weight you can move?
We don't have one, as long as logistically the move is possible. We will check things like safe dimensions and pathways. We will want to make sure there are no structural limiting factors. We check things like if stairs can handle the weight of the safe, if doorways and hallways are large enough. If all of those things pass our checks we can move any weight safe.
Can you move my safe across country?
We don't move safes across the country. We can load the safe onto your moving truck at the starting location and unload it from your truck at the final location if we service both areas. We do not typically take safes across state lines in our vehicles.
Stairs, Basements, & Difficult Moves
Can you put the safe in the basement or on a second floor?
Yes, stairs moves are our specialty. We will ask you questions about your staircase to make sure that the safe will fit while on our machine, the staircase can handle the weight of the safe, machine, and our crew, and we can get the safe around any turns or landings. Once all of that is verified we can put the safe exactly where you want it.
Can you move a safe up or down stairs with a landing or turn?
Yes, in many cases. Stairs with landings, turns or tight corners may still be possible, but our team will need to review photos, measurements and the safe specs before confirming
Why would you deny a safe placement after vetting?
There are a few reasons we would deny a placement after reviewing all the information. The most common reason is that the safe will not fit where the customer wants to have it placed. We factor in the dimensions of the safe, pinch points, weights, landing dimensions, and our machine size when vetting the job. If we determine the safe will not fit we will either ask for an alternate placement or tell you what size safe will fit.
Vault Doors
Do you install vault doors?
Yes. Nick of Time Moving can help with vault door delivery, moving and installation. Because vault doors are heavy and require precise placement, we review the door specifications, access path, wall opening, and site conditions before confirming the job.
Can you remove or relocate an existing vault door?
In many cases, yes. We may ask for photos, measurements, door details, and information about the surrounding structure so our team can determine the safest way to remove or relocate it.
Do you have vault doors for sale?
Yes. We may have vault doors available, and we can help track down vault door options if you are interested in purchasing one.
Anchoring, Placement, & Protection
Do all safes have to be bolted down?
No, not all safes are required to be bolted down. However, many safe manufacturers recommend anchoring a safe for added stability and security. Because the door of a gun safe is often very heavy, an unanchored safe may become unstable when the door is open. Bolting the safe down can help reduce tipping risk and keep the safe securely in place.
Can you bolt down my safe?
Yes. Nick of Time Moving offers safe anchoring and bolt-down services for many residential and commercial safes. If you would like your safe bolted down after delivery or placement, let us know during the quote process so we can review the floor type, safe location, and any possible concerns before the appointment.
What kind of bolts are used to anchor a safe?
For most safe bolt-down services, we use concrete anchors. The final anchoring method depends on the safe, floor type, and placement location. If there are concerns such as heated floors, post-tension slabs, or plumbing lines, our crew will review the area before anchoring.
What is the safe bolt-down process?
When our crew arrives, they will first review the final safe placement and confirm there are no visible concerns. If the safe can be safely anchored, they typically use a hammer drill to create the anchor points, then secure the safe to the floor using the appropriate bolts or anchors for that location.
Is there a reason you would deny a safe bolt-down?
Yes. We may deny a safe bolt-down if anchoring could create a safety issue or damage risk. Common reasons include heated floors, post-tension slabs, plumbing or water lines, unknown floor conditions, or a placement area that cannot be safely drilled. If a bolt-down service was charged but cannot be completed, we will refund the bolt-down portion of the service.
Should I leave the safe on the pallet or shipping legs?
You can, but we do not usually recommend leaving a safe on a pallet or shipping legs long-term. Pallets can rot, weaken, or become brittle over time, and shipping legs are not always designed to be a permanent accessory. For long-term safe placement, we recommend discussing proper placement, elevation, or anchoring options with our team.
What should I place my safe on?
Many customers place their safe directly on the floor, while others use a stand, cabinet, platform, or elevation option. Nick of Time Moving can also place a safe on four hockey pucks when appropriate. This can help create airflow under the safe without changing the overall appearance too much. In many cases, the safe can still be bolted down while sitting on hockey pucks.
Quotes & Scheduling
How long does it take to get my safe moved or delivered?
Delivery and moving timelines vary depending on the safe’s location, access, and placement requirements. In many cases, we can complete the move or delivery within a few days. If we need additional photos or information to plan the job safely, the timeline will depend on how quickly we receive those details. Prompt responses help us schedule your service as quickly as possible.
I moved the safe myself and dropped it, can you still help me?
In most cases, yes. Our crews have helped many customers recover safes that were dropped, tipped, or became stuck during a move. Every situation is different, so we may ask for photos and additional details before scheduling. Depending on the safe’s position, weight, damage, and the equipment or labor required, an additional difficulty fee may apply.
How much does it cost to move or deliver a safe?
The cost to move or deliver a safe depends on several factors, including the safe’s weight, the miles traveled, and where it will be placed in the home or business. Stairs, turns, and other access challenges can also affect the final price.

Why is an exposed basement sometimes priced as a stair delivery?
Most exposed basement deliveries are priced as stair deliveries because the crew may need additional time, labor, or specialized equipment to move the safe safely.
An exposed basement may qualify for first-floor pricing when the crew can drive directly to the basement entrance on paved ground and the entire path into the home is paved and accessible. If the crew must travel over grass, soft ground, or uneven terrain, different equipment may be required to prevent sinking, lawn damage, or safety issues. In those situations, stair-delivery pricing may apply.
Can you store my safe?
Yes, if we are storing it for just a few days we don't charge for it. If you are interested in long term storage we charge storage fees. Contact us for more details
Can I have my safe shipped directly to you for delivery?
Yes. Many customers choose to have safes purchased online shipped directly to our facility instead of delivered to their home. This can help prevent the safe from being left outside, in a driveway, or in the middle of a garage while waiting for final delivery.
When the safe arrives, we inspect it for visible damage and then contact you to schedule delivery. In most cases, there is no additional charge for having the safe shipped directly to us, but we recommend contacting us before completing your purchase so we can confirm the shipping and delivery details.
